I know we've been manifesting S8 Air Ops since that photo of a hangar was posted by a member of the scouting team. And I know the other side has been mocking us for being delusional when other bts photos of an aircraft came out. So here I am, taking my shipper's goggles off, and diving into the aviation side of things. I have to admit, it left me with more questions than answers.

They already have a hangar for Air Ops in S7, they don't need another one

No. The 911!Air Ops we see in S7 is the Helinet hangar at Van Nuys Airport. Helinet is a company that rents and operates helicopters for news stations, film crews, medivac service or regular charter flights. You can compare images from 7x02 and 7x03 with Google Street Views of the Helinet Hangar.

You can also see N67TV and N29HD here.

Helinet is where ABC usually rents its news helicopters from, so it's cheaper and more convenient to film a couple scenes there when helicopters are needed. It can't be used for regular filming though, because Helinet has a business to run, and when a helicopter takes off, it's so noisy that you can't even hear each other talking, let alone shooting a scene. (I recommend watching the whole video, if you're interested in accuracy when it comes to writing fics.)

It's a plane related emergency so it must be related to Tommy

Also no. Again, I've written a piece about how Tommy was not the air tanker pilot in 2x14 before, and if he was not qualified for that, he's not qualified to fly an airliner either. It's not impossible that he flies a small turboprop aircraft like a Cessna 172, but he would never have the time to get certified as a commercial airliner pilot while working as an active firefighter since 2005.

And this is a prop for an Airbus airliner.

It's actually pretty easy to tell an Airbus aircraft from a Boeing one, as the shape of the rear cockpit windows is pretty different between the two. It's just a matter of which Airbus model it is. I believe it's a narrow body single aisle aircraft from the A320 family.

Wide body Airbus aircrafts, like this A300, have their side cockpit windows more tapered to the top. It also applies to other Airbus twin aisle aircrafts, like the A330 and the A340.

On the A320 though, the side windows are flat on the top.

So it's a pretty safe bet that the aircraft we see in that bts photo is one from the A320 family. I can't pinpoint which one it exactly is, because again, I can just see a tiny section of the cockpit, not the rest of the aircraft.

So the hangar must be for the airplane then?

The hangar itself is a former Air National Guard maintenance hangar at Ontario International Airport (ONT/KONT). It's especially used for filming. There are bigger hangars at the same airport for filming, but this one looks the best on camera.

They don't need a hangar for scenes inside of the plane, they have cockpit and cabin mock-ups at the studio for them.

You can clearly see the cabin door right here from recent bts footage. It looks just like a training facility for flight attendants.

They only film on location if they want shots of the entire aircraft from the outside. Like in 1x04, the scenes of Athena responding to an alleged unruly passenger were filmed in a set. The plane crash rescue parts of the episode though, were filmed in an actual retired 757 in a tub of water.

(Lone Star worked with this exact company for 3x08. Though, that plane was a 737 I believe.)

I can't think of any disastrous scenario happening in a maintenance hangar, where the aircraft is powered off with only maintenance staff present, no passengers or crew. Well, there have been cases of planes crashing into a hangar, but even then I don't see the need for the 118 to be there. Every major airport has at least one fire station on site with dedicated foam and crash units. In fact, there is a fire station right next to this hangar IRL.

Another problem, although I'm not sure because I don't have the actual measurements, is that the celling of the hangar looks quite low. (Refer to page 44 of this document) It was originally built in 1955 to house fighter jets. The F-102, the type of aircraft operated there in the 60s and 70s, has a total height of 6.5 meters. The tail of an A320 on the other hand can reach 11.76 m from the ground. (The shortest variant of the A320 family is actually even taller, 12.51 m.) So there could be some tail bumping action if you try to tow an A320 into this hangar.

So Air Ops is still a possibility?

Yes. This hangar is quite a bit larger than the Helinet hangar, but still not as big as the actual Air Ops facility. A helicopter is obviously much smaller than a passenger airliner that can seat over 180, you can easily fit multiple helicopters in there with plenty of space left for other set props. But the problem is, they don't have enough helicopters.

They have that one replica of N211FN that they used to film the search and rescue in 7x03, that's it. All the other helicopters you see on screen, including the real N211FN that actually flies, belong to Helinet. Sure, they can get some more fake helicopters that are empty inside just for looks, but I don't see the need to spend so much extra money just to show Tommy's place of work unless it's related to some major plot points. For now, I don't see how that would fit into the story.

There is also the possibility that the hangar has nothing to do with anything aviation related. I mean, they've filmed countless ads, music videos and movies, including Ford vs Ferrari there. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe that's why that crew member eventually got the green light to confirm the hangar is indeed for 9-1-1, it tells us absolutely nothing.

Ok I’m antsy to write something starting out just to see what I can do. I’m going to start with the ABC sfw list first for the band + Charles. If you want to see any additional characters you can comment or ask!

ABC Headcannons (SFW) Nathan Explosion

Summary: like I said this is Nathan’s full ABC list. I’m going to be as detailed as I possibly can for your viewing pleasure ;). I’m feeling Pickles or Murderface next.

Warning: slight angst // dipping into they’re toxic traits they’re learning to overcome

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Nathan is a bit apprehensive at the start of your relationship due to his rocky previous ones. He likes you, don’t get him wrong, but he’s never really gotten the chance to get so close to someone like he has with you. He’s still trying to wrap his head around how he hadn’t scared you away when he thought you were just some fan. Still you wiggled your way into his Iron Maiden heart, open for you to remove the defensive impalers he’d put up.

After he’s learned to accept the affection you bestowed upon him graciously, and patiently might I add, he uses the tactics he’s learned from you to be a better boyfriend. He asks about your day, genuinely enthralled by your voice. Nathan swears he could listen to you for hours even if you really weren’t talking about anything.

Massaging his shoulders and back was always the key to calming him down whenever he was insatiably irritated. He figured it would surely get his message across to you, who doesn’t love the intimate act of vanquishing the poisons of a stressful day with your own hands? It didn’t matter where you were, if you weren’t having a good time he’d find some way to expel the tension. Say you were backstage with the band after a show and you were overwhelmed with the lights and the noise, he’d take your hand and gently massage it thoroughly. He’d roll his thumb pads over each finger, each knuckle- no joint left aching. Even if he only held one hand, every inch of that hand would be tended to. If they were cold, clammy, and anxiously shaking, they were surely warm and quelled now. Despite Nathan’s stature, despite his large hands, and despite what his attitude had lead you to believe, he was gentle with his hands.

When all else failed, Nathan resorted to what he was best at to convey just how much he adored you. Writing was always Nathan’s go to outlet to organize the scrambled thoughts in his mind, it’s apparent in his music- brutal poems that paired with equally intense music. Racing thoughts and far away words always made more sense when he put the pen to the paper, the unmoving paragraphs further cemented everything he felt. You had started a notebook to house all of the eloquent letters he’s written for you to remind you that at the end of the day you were the one he’d return to. Your heart was home to his.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend?)

Nathan is all about going out and doing things with people he’s particularly friendly with. Expected to go on your fair share of road trips and lots of camping. It’s all the activities he enjoyed with his dad, he considered him a friend so why wouldn’t he bring his friends along for the experience?

You never took Nathan to be a survival buff, but given his himbo nature you weren’t that surprised. He’s taught you a lot about being in the wilderness whenever he had time between records.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Oh my gods, if his arms aren’t constricted around you he will not sleep well that night. Your warmth has become so incredibly soothing to him, he falls asleep almost as soon as your head rests on his chest. Nathan is essentially a 250 pound teddy bear at the end of a rough day where all he wanted to do was wind down with you. He really enjoyed how your smaller frame slotted with his, how natural it felt to wrap his arms around you and stay like that forever.

Nathan had a 3 point plan when it came to his night time routine with you; Step one: acquire the snuggle bug (a nickname he’d drunkenly bestowed upon you when you both retired to his room after a drinking contest with pickle), Step two: profit, Step three: uhhhhh. Ok so maybe it was more of a two point plan, but his point still stands.

If the secret softie couldn’t fall asleep as fast as he’d intended, he’d watch the rhythmic rise and fall off of your chest as you slumbered peacefully against his big burly chest. His hands would slip under your shirt to rub your back, or stomach depending on how you slept that night, in idle circles. The feeling of your skin no matter if it was smooth or blemished, he never cared either way, soothed him more than he thought it could. You were real, you were here- with him! And gods did you look exhilarating in his arms, trusting him completely as you dreamed.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

There was something in Nathan that constantly made him want to impress you as your relationship grew increasingly more docile. He picked up more around the areas the two of you occupied most at Mordhaus; cleaning up the empty beer cans and putting away any stray bongs or other illicit drugs that were littered around the main room the previous night, or he’d take the time to clean his room and bathroom a tad more he usually would when it was just him. It was never about getting a deep clean, he wasn’t embarrassed to have you over when his room was messy, yet something about you made him more motivated to do more than just sit on his ass with you.

Settling down never crossed his mind until you, that was always something he’d associated with parents and old people- you settled down when you wanted to start a family and give up your career and anything that gave you substance. It was always love or hate when he thought about it. On one hand, he absolutely loved you and wanted to spend his life with you. His parents always seemed so happy with each other even after all the years they’d spent together, so maybe it couldn’t be too bad. Yet on the other hand he wouldn’t give up the band or the empire he built for you, you never wanted him to.

Who said you two had to slow down or give up to settle completely into each other? Nathan’s wanted to settle up with you, so he’d said, to never slow down or stop experiencing the fast life he was so accustomed to.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

The way Nathan would break up with you depends on how deep he was into the relationship with you. He wouldn’t have any qualms about bluntly telling you to stay out of his life if he wasn’t feeling it, and he would tell you the moment the thought arose. He’s been with a few women who’d overstayed their welcome and he’s learned not to dance around it if he wanted the comforting discomfort of his loneliness back. Alternatively, if he’s been invested, gave a shit, and was receptive to you opening your soul to him, he’d be more delicate. Whether it was a fault on his end, or you had finally had enough of his baggage he could feel it. He could feel when your laugh didn’t hold the same joy in it like it used to, your eyes didn’t look at him with the enthusiasm he’s grown accustomed to anymore. When Nathan noticed the signs, it was the most brutal pain he’s ever felt, emotionally that is. He never wanted you to feel like you were trapped with him, it’s just as bad if not worse for sticking around just because he was famous in his eyes.

Much like his affection for you, the man has to put all of his feelings, all the words he has left to say to you, and his best wishes for you all on paper. It’s not a script mind you, more of a practice for how he’d approach you. He felt pitiful as he stood in front of his mirror as you slept in the bed just feet from him, mumbling tiredly as he rehearsed the best approach. Nathan didn’t want to completely break your spirits or guilt trip you, the only thing that has brought him joy was your happiness and even if you had to find it with someone else he’d be content knowing you weren’t forcing something that had died out a long time ago.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

The moment he felt like he could talk to you openly without the guard of his walls, he knew he wanted to be yours forever. Mind you this would be over the course of at least a couple of years as you grew with the band. He was a busy man and in the beginning he’d rather do anything else that sit down to have a conversation he thought he’d regret at the time.

And now here he was five years later, the best version of himself that he’s been in gods knows how long, commissioning a ring he’d deem as the perfect oath to you. He’d been planning this for the last six months, between working on the music and getting his band mates to swear on their lives that they wouldn’t fuck anything up the time has passed him by. When everything was perfect he put his plan into motion. While on some vacation he’d pull you aside, away from the band and any prying eyes and propose to you. He’d been so caught up in not crying that he definitely didn’t notice Pickle and Toki recording him while skwisgaar recovered from his preemptive cringe to see everything went surprisingly well.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

While Nathan was essentially a brick wall, he has learned to carry himself a bit lighter while he was around you. He used to be heavy handed whenever he handled you but since then he figured out how to turn the brutality meter down. Not to say he didn’t rough house with you, play fights were a guarantee.

Emotionally, it took several trials and tribulations to find that sweet spot he could handle. While he did figure out how to talk a bit easier with you there were still certain topics he’d be blunt and a little hurtful, though it’s never his intention. There’s just some things he needed to work through himself before he drug you into it.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Nathan’s arms are two heavy magnets when it comes to you. Anytime you were cooking, washing dishes, or hell just standing around, you’d come to expect Nathan to hug you from behind at any given moment.

He’d also liked to pick you up just to marvel at how light you were! He also enjoyed how you’d instinctively wrap your arms around him but don’t tell him I told you that. Any time he could have you like that he would, most often pulling you in his lap no matter where you were (it was also a tactic to scare any wandering eyes).

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Just like with the engagement, he would tell you the moment he knew he wanted to be with you for the rest of his life. It took a lot of time, you showing your love for him through your actions so you didn’t scare him off. Nathan is grateful for it and it certainly had him thinking about it. With each passing day he grew more confident that his feelings were concrete.

When he told you, it wasn’t anything special, hell if you ask him he probably wouldn’t remember what you were doing when he did. You could have been laying in bed, you humming a soft tune and he was just laying there. Whatever the case was he wanted to catch you in your most candid moment, being the you- the person he fell for, before he finally said those three magic words.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

It’s Nathan fucking Explosion. You were the one thing he truly had any incentive to keep for himself and himself alone. If he so much as catches anyone glancing your way they caught his cold intimidating glare in response. He knew better than to make a scene, the first incident nearly killed you with how embarrassed you were. He definitely pulled the “do you know who I am” card and slung a few swears, very loudly might I add.

He would take every step he could to keep you close to prevent anyone from making that move. Every possible chance he could get you were in his lap, leaning against his chest, or wrapped around his arm. It was definitely something he needed to work on, but it was gonna be a bit of a bumpy road. For now you appreciate the thought behind it at the very least.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

You had actually initiated the first kiss, but when he found his footing he found it. He was breathless as he watched you crawl over him, wanting to do something but didn’t want to scare you incase you changed your mind last minute. The kiss grew fervent quickly as his lips molded to yours in his own sloppy rhythm.

Usually when he was itching for a kiss you’d catch him staring at your lips and then quickly away nonchalantly. Other times, he’d turn your face from what ever you were doing or whoever you were talking to to steal a quick one. And no matter the length or intensity he always held so much passion with each connection.

Nathan was a sucker for kissing the top of your head. Whatever shampoo you used always seemed to lull the giant into a docile state as he hugged you from behind. Pickle mentioned it as something akin to witchcraft how fast you could switch up his mood. Alternatively, when he’d lay his heavy head in your lap he’d occasionally turn his head to kiss at your thighs. No matter how small or thick they were he adored how comfortable they were to lay on.

When it came to receiving, he was fairly partial to cheek kisses. It tickled him how gentle you were with him not matter what you did, even though you knew he was the farthest thing from fragile. As unbrutal as it was, he couldn’t help but enjoy every attack you’d unleash upon him, smothering his face in peppered kisses. In addition, he liked getting neck kisses, not even in a sexual way. Lately he’d say the most metal thing was waking up to your partner grazing their lips against his throat before following it up with a proper good morning kiss.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

Children were very rarely an obstacle Nathan had come across, even when he did he had at least nough common sense not to act like a complete jack ass around them. He’d goof around, tell a grey joke and generally just get along until they could be done with the whole situation.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Nathan usually slept in so you were up before him most mornings. The man almost always had an iron grip around you preventing you from moving until you, playfully, threatened to piss the bed. Then you’d earned yourself a half asleep “ick” before the heavy limb was begrudgingly removed from you.

When both of you were finally ready for the day, the first thing you did together was stuff your faces with breakfast food and down some black coffee to shake off the rest of the sleep that plagued your systems. After a brief discussion of what your respective plans were for the day you’d go on about your separate ways.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

It was never a guarantee when you’d settle down on any given night. Nathan was a busy man after all, and that included when he wasn’t doing anything music related. You couldn’t complain that’s just how the band was. Nearly constant procrastination to get stuff done was the only unchanging factor, so you were dragged around to all their adventures and shenanigans.

When you did finally retreat to the bedroom at the end of the night, the first thing on your itinerary was climbing into a shower. Lately Nathan’s skin has been breaking out from the stage makeup he wears, but fear not for you figured out a skin care routine for him. And it started with you helping him wash his face properly in the shower. Man has a 6-in-one that he uses for everything.

After showers always consisted of sitting on the bed, wrapped in towels while you talked about any and everything to procrastinate actually getting dressed and settling down. Remember how I said Nathan procrastinates everything? When you finally did get up to get dressed you very rarely went to your own closet, instead you opted just to take one of Nathan’s massive shirts so you didn’t have to sleep in pants.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

It didn’t take long to realize that you weren’t going away that easily, and it took even less time for him to realize that you weren’t like a ‘normal’ fan of his. You had confided your fair share of secrets in him that he thought he wouldn’t care about. He found himself holding onto every word you said and realized that maybe he should let you in the metaphorical door. Usually it was small details or a look into how his thought process goes.

Whenever he told you something new it was seldom prompted. It was like you’d stumbled into a secret area in a video game while you were exploring, and the character you’d been trailing with suddenly drops some lore without warning. Despite how odd his patterns were it made him all the more intriguing to you, learning about him as an individual and putting the puzzle pieces together.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Patience was like a generator for him, the less stress he had plugged in metaphorically, the more patience he had. But as more and more things were piled on the battery drained faster. He tried not to be irritable around you, you never in your time with him ever gave him a reason to be mad. He didn’t want you to be in the splash zone if he snapped.

The only exception to the battery rule he had was if anything happened to you. He can remember all too vividly being at some bar full of regular jack offs with you and the band. Someone where in the background while you and the band were laughing about something Pickle had said, a bar fight had started. At first Nathan shrugged it off, it was annoying but it didn’t ruin the atmosphere. That was until one of them threw a half full bottle of Natty Light just above your head, having missed its initial target. The glass shattered and nicked your shoulder, the remaining booze that splashed didn’t do much to help the situation as you winced hardly at the stinging.

None of the band knew Nathan had hopped over the table until they heard him toss a couple of rage filled swears at the culprit.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Having always been slow to learn things, Nathan took it upon himself to keep a section of his notebook dedicated to your favorite anything. It could be as small as your favorite color or as important as an allergy you’d mentioned so he didn’t accidentally gift you something you couldn’t eat/enjoy. He would challenge himself to memorize important dates and names you’d told him in passing to surprise you when he asks about them later.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in their relationship?)

The singers favorite moment in the time he’s met you would probably have to be the first time he heard you sing. As insignificant as it may seem, he did really enjoy your voice.

He was walking back to his room after having a particularly frustrating conversation with Charles. When he grew closer he could hear muffled noises that sounded like humming. Slowly, he opened the door to see you standing by the window, looking out over the rest of Mordhaus as you sang. It was a song he’s never heard but you carried it so well.

Nathan shut the door quietly and made his way over, any frustration he had faded into the back ground. His arms wrapped around your waist and he had to bite back a chuckle as you squealed. The moment was short but it was the softest he’s felt for anyone ever, and he has you to thank for that.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you?)

Much like the jealousy segment showcased, Nathan is usually on top of everything when it comes to your protection. He’s a fuckin brick shithouse so he can handle anything physically. During the course of your relationship with him, he’s most likely hospitalized a small country worth of people who tried to make any kind of move to hurt you— being in the spot light did have its risks you know.

Security ran deeper than just what he could do physically. Having to overcome fear and rejection, he’s learned a small handful of coping mechanisms. He uses that knowledge to help you whenever he recognizes the signs of panic or in general just discomfort. Sometimes you’d have to remind him that you’re ok, that it wasn’t that serious. He just worries about you!

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

Nathan’s parents were always he blueprint when it came to his perspective of love. When he got famous he never thought he’d reach it, but now that he has you he’s ecstatic to use every trick he’s observed in his youth. On dates and anniversaries expect a plethora of cliche gifts: big bouquets of roses, stuffed animals, jewelry.

He engraved each and every date that something important has happened on in his brain, and also written several times on calendars and in his notebook, so there was absolutely no chance he’d forget anything. He’s working with Charles to plan events and parties for your anniversary, the big fancy ones and not just something he’d usually throw together with the guys.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Nathan tends to shut down some days when he’d have a particularly bad dream…speaking of he’s rather private about his dreams. Any time you’d ask what was on his mind he refused to elaborate further than just “mm’bad dream..”

He was a diva in his own way, if it wasn’t perfect it wasn’t accepted. So many albums lost, green rooms wrecked, tours nearly ruined. Though it makes you uncomfortable to see him regress to tantrums sometimes, you chalked it up to the fame. These moments were small in comparison to your relationship as a whole.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Nathan takes at least some pride in his appearance, anything so he didn’t fall to Williams level. He did have an Old Spice 4-in-1: shampoo, conditioner, face wash, body wash. Why have so many products that all smelled different? It was a lot on his senses so he uses that so all of him was clean and smelled like…wait what did the bottle say? Congealed Liquified Corpse…it was a Dethklok x Old Spice collab. Brutal name aside, it actually made him smell earthy, piney even— it was a joke in a bottle.

Shower practice aside, he did the basics when it came to his actual appearance; he’d comb his hair, brush his teeth, wipe his ass. It did the job well enough and he was ok with how he looked.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Absolutely he would, you’d become his home. You domesticated the beast and he was forever putty in your hands. Without you, he’d feel lost. There was no hole in his heart, it was just gone— you were his heart. Any time you had to leave for some other business Charles had you doing, he’d just mope around alone in the room if he wasn’t distracting himself with the band. Even then, the party felt incomplete without you.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

Nathan is very fluent in French, like he sounds like he grew up speaking it. He most definitely sweet talks you in French. Alternatively he would get away with saying the most outta pocket and down right filthy shit to you and no one has a clue until they see you quickly turn red.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

In a partner, he really doesn’t want just some fan— he’s been burned way too many times. They’re shallow and don’t even want to know who he is as a person, it’s slimy and not to mention very one sided.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

See his thre- uhh two point plan, in the cuddle section. He won’t sleep well if he isn’t tangled up with you. In addition if you sleep with any kind of noise going on, he’d adapt and now he can’t sleep without anything going on in the background. Noticing his infatuation with the ocean lately, you introduced him to whale songs to sleep to and boy howdy is he out like a light whenever you turn it on.

Ok I got a little carried away, but I’m really proud of it! Let me know what you think of my big pushover- aha!

i've barely posted here in like 3 months but i still get activity notifications pretty often and at this point for my sanity i try not to click on them. because more often than not, it's someone reblogging one of my educational posts about ableism and then, before i've scrolled down 10 posts on their blog, doing one of the exact things i've implored this fandom not to do, or being overtly ableist in some other way.

i work hard to make sure my educational posts are kind, approachable, and easy to listen to. i think that's gone too far. my posts are so approachable and inoffensive that they've attracted an audience of people who only reblog my posts because they see me as a Good Nice Disabled Person, and see reblogging my posts as an easy way to get your "I listen to disabled people" card without, without ever having to change your behavior or challenge your ableist views.

but you DO have to change your behavior and challenge your ableist views.

people always respond to my posts like i must be talking about someone else. some unknown ableist that mysteriously never appears on their social media feed, not them and their circle of friends and the things they casually see on their dash & assume must be okay. i say "the RTC fandom needs to stop doing XYZ ableist thing" and all of the allies in my notifications respond "yeah obviously you should only do XYZ under ABC circumstances!"

you don't speak for me! you don't get to decide that what i say has obvious exceptions that i forgot to mention! you don't get to assume that when i talk about something being a problem, i don't mean it in the way that you do it because you could never be part of the problem!

i hate seeing ableists reblog my posts about ableism because it makes me feel like everyone is seeing it and thinking i agree with the words they're putting in my mouth. like i'm endorsing their ableism. i would rather not be listened to at all than have people only "listen" to me so that they can cherry-pick what i say, and interpret it in the most strained way possible, just so that it seems like i'm not saying anything they need to hear.

i don't know how to make myself any clearer; i say what i mean and my posts generally DON'T have a million obvious unspoken exceptions. when i say "if you haphazardly change ricky's disability to 'fix' canon rep without understanding what canon did wrong in the first place, you are likely to cross over into disability erasure" i don't mean "the only changes you should haphazardly make to 'fix' canon's disability rep are these ones that we've all agreed are okay". when i say "don't single out the disabled character to call him a freak" i dont mean "its only okay to call disabled people freaks in these circumstances". when i say "dont try to speak for the disabled community, focus on boosting our voices" i dont mean "you should only try to speak for the disabled community if it's one of these specific issues where you obviously already know what the whole disabled community thinks".

the truth is: this fandom has a HUGE ableism problem. ricky's canonical neuromuscular disorder is almost never acknowledged, the vast majority of depictions water his disability down in some way, his mobility aids are treated like fun cute props instead of something he genuinely needs. at the same time ricky is constantly dehumanized, stereotyped, turned into the butt of ableist jokes. and when disabled fans point this out - or speak about ableism in any other form, or just talk about our lives as disabled people - we get stereotyped as well, and we get belittled, and people who know nothing about the subject step in to correct us or argue with us or decide what we mean. because obviously, everyone knows better than the disabled person about ableism.

if you see me talking about ableism and you assume you surely aren't part of the problem, then nobody will ever improve. the problem is huge. you are almost definitely part of the problem! so many well--intentioned people are! i have been, at points!

just. you don't speak for me, nobody speaks for me except me. stop deciding my posts dont mean anything you might need to hear. do your research. listen to disabled people.

I downloaded their entire discography when I was a teenager, and I think I still have most of the lyrics saved on my songs on iTunes: but while I used to use the Wayback Machine to view it using www.papersnow.net/kiku) but unfortunately, I think it's become broken on the wayback machine. I was just curious if you still had them and if it was possible to ask for them at all! Regardless, ty so much for everything, your lyrics genuinely helped make out a part of my childhood almost 20 years ago <3

Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad to know that my years of dedicated effort has lingered so long in people's minds. It at least makes it easier to not want to scrub all that cringe off the earth (and just leave it as it was to look on fondly instead of obsessively thinking I should make corrections with more experience).

I'm sure I probably still have everything on an old computer somewhere but for now that's most of it. I'm sure the newer ABC stuff is either here or somewhere easier to find, but all the Janne should be on Livejournal.

SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States. The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science. SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research. The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network. Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor. Gary’s always loved science. He was the dorky school kid who spent his weekends at the Australian Museum. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on a career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Adventures of Wally & The Gang (plus their Caretaker)

Off Script Shenanigans

Warnings: None. Humor, wholesome content.

Word Count: 1,513

Brief Description: The Welcome Home cast is alive and live alongside humans. You have been contracted to be their Caretaker, tending to their needs, schedule, and keeping them from (getting themselves into) bad publicity. The gang has some downtime on set, entertaining themselves or each other with nonsensical activities to pass the time as the Technical Director works on fixing the issues.

The studio was as energetic as ever. Production had halted due to technical difficulties that needed to be resolved. You lazily sat on one of the deck chairs, elbow on the armrest, cheek leaning against your palm as you scanned across the set and watched some of the cast members. You were glad to get a break and off your feet.

[Eyes first land on Sally]

Sally was going over the script, suggesting certain scenes to be revised with the Director, and penciling in changes.

Sally: “I just think we really should include a song during this scene, making it more—lively, ya know?”

You overheard her conversation, chuckling as the Director gave her a puzzled look. You weren’t sure how much more ‘lively’ the show could be with the beautiful array of bright colors and every other episode already containing musical numbers. “Oh! Maybe even a dance sequence—”

[Eyes pan towards Poppy]

You watched as the red fluff of feathers hummed to herself, sitting near a basket of props. You couldn’t tell what she was doing exactly, but it looked like she was probably knitting something? Well, she had her hobbies outside of teaching children their ABC’s.

[Next, you saw Julie]

Julie: “Howdy-ho neighbors! Come tour the Welcome Home set with me!”

A small smile formed on your lips as you watched the bubbly puppet hold her phone slightly above her face as she chatted with fans on her live feed.

Your eyes trained on her for a minute as she walked about, introducing some of the wardrobe designers and makeup artists that work on her outfits, looks, and so on. As she moved on, you kept watching as Julie draped an arm around Wally’s shoulders before he could snatch up one of the apples sitting at the spread table, adjusting her phone so both were in the frame of view.

Julie: “Wally Darling, say hello to everyone!”

Wally: “Well hello dear neighbors! Hope you’re all looking forward to the next episode.” He waved, smiling.

Barnaby soon came up from behind the two with a large grin, saying hello as well. You could tell the chat was going absolutely insane getting to interact with them. You giggled at their antics, happy that they got to spend some time with people from all around the world, even if it wasn’t during one of their face-to-face meet-and-greets.

Probably one of the many things you admired about them.

Although sometimes crazy (and difficult to handle), they were always dedicated to entertaining the masses with wholesome content. On camera anyhow. It was your job to make sure no scandalous rumors ended up in the media; constantly protecting their image off screen. You’d hate to see the show canceled, especially since you were dedicated not only to the basis of the show but because you deeply cared for them.

Julie: “Oh! Barnaby, someone asked how many things you’re able to juggle at once.”

Barnaby: “Well, let’s see. Hey, lil’ buddy, toss me a few of those apples will ya?”

Julie released her light hold on Wally, flipping the camera so she could point the phone toward the pair. She stepped back as Wally began gently tossing a few apples in Barnaby’s direction. The blue mass caught them with ease, beginning to juggle. 1…2...3…4….

Barnaby: “Ha! Too easy, c’mon, toss me a few more.”

Julie: “Oh, oh! Someone also said to make it more challenging.”

Wally: “Guess we just have to give our dear neighbors what they’re asking for.” He muses, scanning the spread table and grabbing one of the bananas, then tossing it toward Barnaby.

Again, catching it with ease, Barnaby chuckled as he nodded toward the soda cans. Wally picked one up, tossing them his way.

Barnaby: “…5….6!” The juggling continued, items being tossed a bit higher to make some space as he caught and tossed, and tossed, and tossed.

Julie: “Think you can handle any more?”

Barnaby: “I’m the Great Barnaby B. Beagle, nothing can stop me now!”

Wally looked over, pondering what to toss his friend next. He decided on some sunglasses, then grabbed one of the bowling pin props and a small stress ball out of a box one of the stagehands was carrying as they scooted by.

Wally: “…7…8….9….”

You continued to watch, tilting your head up slightly as Barnaby’s juggling began to waver and then steady.

Barnaby: “Let’s make it an even 10. Toss me one more please.”

There weren’t many other options readily available until Wally saw one of the saran-wrapped sandwiches on the table. Picking it up, he tossed it but misjudged the distance as Barnaby jolted to catch it. Stepping forward, he caught it, but it threw off the balance of the juggled circle and the items began slightly leaning more and more until Barnaby began staggering toward you.

You perked up, stiffening. You noticed he was moving toward one of the cables on the floor, which was unfortunately not taped down to prevent a tripping hazard.

Caretaker: “Barnaby, wait—”

Too late.

Barnaby: “Whoa--!” The puppet’s foot was caught underneath the cable, the apples, banana, sandwich, sunglasses, bowling pin prop, stress ball, and can of soda flying in your direction.

Everything crashed down around you, save for the soda can, which plummeted right in front of you. The sheer velocity of the aluminum can hitting the ground had enough force to burst, a steady, but violent stream of soda onto your face. (Did everything that went wrong have to be an overly exaggerated gag bit?)

You held your hands out to try and shield yourself, aggressively coughing as you accidentally inhaled the fizzy beverage through your nose. After what felt like an eternity, it finally stopped blasting in your face.

Both Wally and Julie were immediately by your side, asking if you were okay, while Barnaby repeatedly apologized from the ground. You could hear the commotion around you as Sally ran to grab a towel, Poppy squawking in concern somewhere in the background.

Wally: “Care, are you okay?” He asked, reaching over, and gently placing a hand on your arm. “Are you hurt—” He stopped, eyes widening slightly as you began to laugh under your breath, which soon turned into loud, boisterous laughter.

You didn’t quite open your eyes since the soda stung, but you couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. Doubling over, you just couldn’t stop yourself from cracking up. Both Wally and Julie sighed in relief, smiling as you confirmed you were okay. As you calmed down from your fit of laughter, you thanked Sally for the towel and wiped your face.

Wally: “Well, I’m glad you’re alright Caretaker. It’s also nice to see you having more fun.”

Julie: “Yeah! You have such a wonderful laugh! You should do that more often.”

Barnaby: “Pfft—you call that a laugh? It was more of like a goose hon—” His mouth shut automatically as you gave the blue puppet a warning glance. “Uh.. ha, ha, ha. I mean, your laugh is fantastic Care!” He backtracked before standing and looking you over. Placing his hands on his hips, he shifted his weight to one leg, smiling down at you. “But, it does sound refreshing to finally have you let loose.”

You shake your head, wrapping the towel around your shoulders.

Julie: “Oh! Right!” Julie swapped her phone camera again, leaning closer and placing you both in the frame. “Hey, hey neighbors! Crisis averted! They’re A-O.K.! But let me also introduce you to the most important member of the Welcome Home Cast! This is our dear Caretaker! They work super hard!”

Wally: “That’s right. They always take great care of us.” He adds, leaning closer despite the threat of getting his felt sticky.

Sally: “And they’re super cool!”

Barnaby: “Not to mention, a real spitfire.” He nudged your shoulder gently once he made his way to you.

At this point, Poppy, Eddie, Howdy, and Frank had appeared, joining in the cascade of praises. You were a bit too stunned to speak, not quite used to being complimented so much. You definitely weren’t anticipating this. You were skeptical at first, but their words were truly genuine as each of the cast members looked over to you with smiles reaching all the way up to their eyes. You heard and saw the swift pings of comments from the fans, not being able to read all of them, but catching a glimpse of the ‘hello Caretaker’, ‘keep doing your best’, and ‘you’re incredible’.

Caretaker: “I… thank you….” You replied sheepishly, feeling your face begin to flush. You reached up, grabbing one of the ends of the towel that was wrapped around your shoulders, bringing it up to your nose to hide the blush that had formed.

All cast members, in unison: “No, thank YOU, Caretaker!”

[Bonus]

You would later clean yourself up and ended up scolding Barnaby, Wally, and Julie about the dangers of carelessly tossing so many things in the air without properly considering their surroundings. Someone could have seriously gotten hurt after all.

This definitely is an interesting point of view. And while I do think they have time to tell more personal character driven stories in the remaining episodes since as we have seen the show can do a lot in a little time if they want, and I definitely do feel like we have had a lot more direct call and acknowledgment of buddie this season,

I can’t fully say this anons buddie and Tim argument is flawed either though. Because that is an established pattern of the show and Tim. Buddie gets hyped for s bit. Gets the numbers in. We all collectively go omg it’s finally happening and then suddenly the show takes a sharp right turn, issues bts happen that throw everything off and into chaos, and we get left with a “oh haha tune in next season 😉”

It’s been happening since s3 tbh. Which now we know it never stood of actually happening thanks to fox which in hindsight them making any kind of build up while also actively never letting it go anywhere with out our knowledge is even crappier. But I think that’s also why it sucks so much to see now because with ABC it truly has felt possible but like this anon said. The same conversations and concerns that were discussed at the start of the season are now again here at the end. Eddie being sidelined when he shouldn’t be. Pacing issues. Time management issues. Tim getting side tracked. Storylines being moved around and pushed backed. Which this late into the season shouldn’t be happening. But 8 almost 9 seasons into a series most definitely should not still be happening.

And we are very rapidly approaching the end of the season and rapidly heading for once again a “oh haha tune in next season 😉” and more and more I see more and more people starting to say well “buddie canon season 9 here we go!” Which is again an every season occurrence where we all collectively say this is the season! And then by the end we look like 🤡 and adjust the goal post another season. And then it’s rinse and repeat season after season. Which is another interesting point of when do we stop doing that. Because for as long as everyone constantly just goes eh maybe next season, it’s just more room for the show to keep doing it and dragging it out. I know people don’t like to discuss this and it normally gets written off as dooming. Which in a way it is. But it’s also a conversation that eventually the fandom does need to have with itself of when is enough, enough. Like how many seasons of haha maybe this time before sorry your out of chances do we give. Fox we know now was never gonna happen. And with ABC we could maybe give them a pass on s7. It was right off a double strike, and a shortened season, and a brand new network. But if it’s the same old same old at the end of this season? What do we do then. Because this was a fully filled out 18 episodes season with no strikes, no network changes season.

Idk. I’m keeping the hope something is coming for us by season end. But I’ve been doing that for years now so nothing new lol. But with us once more being at the end of the season, chaos happening bts, Tim constantly getting distracted, I can’t say I’d be super shocked to end with yet another hahaha maybe next season guys ending either.

See, I do understand what you are saying here and I get your frustration with the show and with the fandom just accepting it. It's been years now and we're all a little tired.

I see the problems with Tim in charge and I definitely see the problems when it comes to Eddie's narrative and how his story gets sidelined so often. I does frustrate me. But the thing is: it isn't anything new. 🤷‍♀️

I've been watching network TV-shows for decades now and I've seen my favourite characters been sidelined in order to let others shine so many times. In most of those shows the slowburns have always burned extremely slow. The worst one was 'The X-files', no doubt about it.

So I've built up a lot of patience when it comes to my ships going canon. And I've learnt to enjoy the screentime my favourites do get when they are on my screen.

When I watch TV-shows I love, I don't want to waste time on being frustrated, because I know it won't change anything. I cannot influence any TV-show, no matter how much I wish I could. So I've learned to enjoy what we do get. Does that make sense?

And for 911? We have literally never been closer than this. I had zero hope for Buddie canon up until season 6. We got some great Buddie episodes and scenes in all of the first 6 seasons, but it was always something that stood on its own and wasn't properly addressed.

Season 7 and especially 8 have changed all of that. These two seasons are game changers. They have consistently brought us closer to Buddie canon, with 7 giving us bi Buck and 8b actually asking some important questions out loud.

For me that is more than enough. I can now see where this story is going. They have committed to the ship and can't pull back from this, because then they will most certainly face public backlash from the audience AND the press. It's gone too far. They have passed the point of no return.

So I'm content now. Yes, I am critical of some choices Tim made in season 7 and 8a. And yes, I can still be frustrated with Eddie being sidelined in an episode that would have fit him like a glove, but it is what it is. This is how Tim and the writers wanted it and I'm sure it'll all have a purpose in the end. Do I always like these choices? No. But again, there is nothing I can do about it, so why be angry and complain? I don't want to end up hating one of my favourite shows.

Logically we'll see some more evolution in this storyline in season 8. Now, I don't know what this evolution is going to look like, but since the question of 'Buck being in love with Eddie' has been asked by Maddie and Buck himself? I do think we'll get an answer to that question in season 8. It makes sense.

Right now Eddie is still the wild card when it comes to Buddie. But Buck is living in his house now. When he returns to LA with Chris he will most certainly stay with Buck, which would be such a great set up for Eddie to confront his feelings. So yeah, I do think we'll get to see some of Eddie's emotions on this as well and I think we'll get some kind of resolution there, however small it may be.

What this resolution will look like? I don't know. That's up to the show itself. I'm just a viewer and a fan.

Bottom line, for the first time in so many seasons the show has made its Buddie intentions loud and clear. The question has been asked, out loud and on screen. So it is happening and I'm more than happy with that. I am content. 😌

Yes, if I could have written their story myself, I would have made so many different choices than what the show ended up doing. But I'm not a writer on this show. So what is the point of dwelling on that?

We are finally in a position where the Buddie question has been addressed. So I'm going to sit down, patiently watch each episode and be a little disappointed with what we didn't get, but happy with what we did get.

As for the timeline of it all? I haven't a clue. 🤷‍♀️

I never had a clue about the timeline for any other of the TV-shows I've watched in the past. It was always a waiting game, so I'm used to it by now. 😌

Nonny please don't see this as me dismissing your feelings or your opinions in any way. I see you. I get your frustrations and I read your opinions, understand them, even share some of them. Your views matter just as much as mine do.

I'm just in a really good place right now when it comes to Buddie. I'm happy with what we've got and I'm feeling quite optimistic to what we might still get in season 8. That's all.🤷‍♀️

Since he sits in the synagogue a lot, Yussif really appreciates it when you show up during the early afternoon to take a walk with him around the village whilst eating lunch together. He thinks it is wonderful that you get out of your way to come find him whilst he is busy working for Adonai, because it makes him feel loved.

Beauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

You think his smile is the most adorable thing ever, the way his eyes light up whenever he does so. He is the sweetest little ‘cinnamon roll’ when he smiles, a nickname that makes him blush his ears off.

Yussif thoroughly adores your positive attitude in everything, which in turn gives him more energy as well.

Comfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

Yussif will gently wrap his arms around you in an attempt to calm you down. He will kiss your temple repeatedly to make you laugh again, but only when he thinks it is appropriate to do so. For example, he will also give you space if you need it and will never trivialise your anxiety.

Dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

The two of you met after your parents had already decided on your arranged marriage, making it quite daunting to see each other for the first time since there was so much at stake. However, after meeting each other, both of you were instantly at ease, for you hit it off in an instant. This means that Yussif can dream about settling down with you with little doubt in his heart, glad that you two were matched together.

Equal - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

Honestly, things between you are quite equal. Even though Yussif is an empathetic and soft spouse, he also knows how to properly lead you through life as a loving husband. This means that both of you sometimes need to take the lead in things, which goes quite naturally.

Fight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

Sometimes, you find yourself arguing with Yussif. Neither of you likes to do so, but every relationship goes through storms every so often. No matter the context of the fight, you two always make up in an appropriate way, be it through a good talk or one of you owning up to being in the wrong.

Gratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

Every morning Yussif wakes up, he turns to you and thanks Adonai for your presence in his life. He will silently whisper his prayers whilst he gets dressed lest he wake you, feeling warmth in his chest whenever he catches a glimpse of your sleeping form.

Honesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?

Yussif doesn’t have a lot of secrets other than the ones he is sworn to keep due to his duty as a rabbi at the synagogue. This doesn’t take away the fact that he definitely feels the urge to tell you everything that has been going on during his work day, not only so that he can get it off his chest, but also to keep you in the loop of what is going on inside his head.

Inspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helping them overcome personal problems?

What you have taught him is to take on a more positive view on some things, softening his heart in making him realise that not everything is about work, even if done for God. What is more is that you were the one to tell him more about Jesus after Yussif heard about Him from Shmuel. The kind of fire in your eyes was way different from the disdain that Shmuel had showed about Jesus, which inspired Yussif to investigate further for himself and be more open to the words of the Preacher from Nazareth.

Jealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

This man is very secure in your relationship, making it so that he doesn’t really get jealous, even if you are conversing with the other rabbis of the synagogue. Yussif is well aware what he means to you and knows that your marriage is stronger than he could ever have dreamt of. Feelings of envy don’t even get a chance inside his heart.

Kiss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

Your first kiss was after you got married and left you blushing and breathless. Both inexperienced, it was also quite awkward, but since it was something you went through together, it also strengthened your bond. Once he got the hang of it, you find yourself getting swept away in unexpectedly good kisses every single day.

Love Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

Of course, the love between you took some time to grow, but after exploring your marriage for a few months, the feeling of being in love changed into ‘loving one another’, which is a comfortable feeling in and of itself. Not just the butterflies, but also the security. Yussif would tell you this while cuddled up together in bed one night, whispering the words in your hair right before you fell asleep. When he said that he loved you, you were instantly awake again, telling him that you loved him, too.

Marriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?

A marriage to Yussif is full of soft and domestic sweetness in which he will make sure that you are cared for. You are the homemaker, which is a position you don’t mind at all, since Yussif definitely brings out a feminine side in you that you never would have found out about otherwise.

Nicknames - What do they call their s/o?

As mentioned earlier, Yussif is a ‘cinnamon roll’ in your books, but also a ‘cuddly bear’. If it were up to him, your legal name would be either ‘honey’ or ‘my sweet wife’, since both nicknames never fail to make you turn red.

On Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?

Whenever he is asked about you during work, his eyes light up and his cheeks turn pink. It is clear how much you mean to him even without him having to say a word, which is adorable in and of itself. Of course, in everything he says, this affection towards you is established even more.

PDA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

Everything intimate is left for a private setting. The most you will get from him in public is a hand on your arm or a gentle squeeze of your hand. Once behind closed doors, however, he can hardly keep his hands to himself.

Quirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.

Rabbi Yussif is learned and knows a lot about Scripture. He often uses this to lift you up whenever you are feeling down about something. No matter what is going on inside your life, he will always have a piece of God’s Word ready. And he will definitely pray for and with you.

Romance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

Prepare to be showered with little gifts ranging from a bouquet of flowers to sweet fruits brought from the market. He will even give you jewellery whenever he has saved up enough money. He is also very good with words, so you sometimes find sweet notes scattered around the house.

Support - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?

It goes without saying that this man is your biggest supporter in everything. Once you share your goals with him, he will often ask about updates and ask you if he can help you out in any way.

Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice up your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

Since Yussif is quite busy all the time, it is easy to resort into a routine that is prone to you becoming stuck in a rut. To prevent this, he takes you out for dinner at least once a month. Besides that, you two have a weekly evening where you spend time doing something new, like baking a new recipe or finding a new book to read together.

Understanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

Where in Israel your parents had found such an empathetic husband goes beyond your understanding, but you don’t mind it in the slightest. You always had this image that rabbis were stuck-up and boring, but ever since marrying Yussif, you have found out that they can be compassionate and sweet, too. It is rare to find a man who is as considerate as Yussif.

Value - How important is the relationship to them? What is it worth in comparison to other things in their life?

Next to his calling to serve Adonai, Yussif takes his duty of being a good husband very seriously. You are the most important person to him and only realises this more once the two of you start pursuing Jesus of Nazareth more often.

Wild Card - A random Fluff headcanon.

Yussif is very, very ticklish. This means that whenever you feel particularly annoying, he will have to escape your fingers from brushing him all over his sides and neck. The sounds he makes during the ordeal only spurs you on. It always ends with some cuddles to make up for it, so Yussif doesn’t really mind it in the long run.

XOXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

It has already been established that this man is cuddly in private and will gladly wrap you up in the warmest, softest hugs with the best smooches to compliment them. He is always the big spoon, making you feel very comfortable and safe.

Yearning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?

Yussif isn’t the dramatic type but he will definitely miss you if you are away from home for a bit, for example to visit your parents in Jerusalem. Because his duties don’t always allow him to join you on your travels, he always worries whenever you are all by yourself. As soon as you arrive in Jerusalem, he wants you to send word right away, which you of course do.

Zeal - Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

There are three certainties in Yussif’s life: one, God is always good. Two, one day he will die. Three, he can’t live without you. If anything were to happen to you, Yussif would drop everything and do whatever is in his power to make sure that you are alright.

That's a good point about it being the official account, not personal. I guess what gives me some sense of optimism is how happy they both look? Like even though they're both actors, Oliver especially is not great at hiding his true feelings sometimes while still being professional (see: that one interview with l*u) So if they were being forced into this, knowing that it was pure 100% bait with nothing good possibly coming for buddie this season (as you mentioned, things can change. but at least to start) I just don't know if either of them would look as smiley and carefree as they do.

But I also agree with you that we as fans often lose sight of the bigger picture of this still being a job and a business. We've seen cast members (*cough* Oliver, again) express displeasure with certain storylines in the past but at the end of the day it's their job to act, promote, and do certain things whether it's what they'd want or not. Fox before and ABC now want to get as much hype, hits, and eyeballs for the show to have success. Of course we love this kind of content, and in our minds it makes complete sense for certain roads to lead to certain ends but that can blind us at the same time.

my view on the oliver thing is that that’s just how he is around ryan… the two of them cannot stop being little giggling blushing messes around each other (….take that for what you will….)

i also think the video was such a general “we’re back for season 8” and ryan decided to jump in and photobomb, and oliver probably assumed that that take wouldn’t be used (bc having worked in social media for productions before, those videos also have several takes that are examined by someone else before approval) so oliver most likely didn’t know if they would use this specific video or not— and so he and ryan were just being the goofballs they are

and don’t get me wrong i LOVE ryan and oliver content… when its being posted by themselves. its when the 911 instagram, the sole purpose of which is to draw attention for the show, uses them as this pretty thing to bring in likes and comments. so i dont believe they were as much being “forced” as much as i feel like it was a situation where oliver was told to film a promo video, ryan jumped in and they goofed off, assuming it probably wouldn’t be used (and also since it was such a general video not thinking about the buddie connotations) and a producer or someone else was like “this will get people talking” and it just went down the line and snowballed into yet snother talking point… which is exactly what they (the production) want it to be.

I really don’t like coming across as a debbie downer or someone who is constantly complaining about the show, but my anxiety prevents me from being able to healthily engage in speculation and (what may be fun for other people) delulu activity, and i kinda wanna be a place, like you said, where people can feel free to soundboard their own concerns about the show without fear of being told “YOURE WRONG BC I FEEL LIKE WE ARE CLOSER THAN EVER” like a lot of bigger blogs tend to do… i like to try and keep my expectations low and realistic (esp after not doing so last season, snd sesing how much mental stress it put me under) and i want to be able to be an outlet for people whose brains also work like that

now i don’t say this with the intent to yuck people’s yum and say you CANT have fun w spec and being delulu, but unfortunately a lot of bigger blogs get trigger happy and act like their delulu is 100% gospel truth what’s going to happen and it just sets up people for disappointment, and while for a lot of people that disappointment is nothing more than a “oh fuck not again… oh well” for some of us out brains process it differently and it creates a sense of dread and upset and i don’t want to be that person. i still have those moments where my brain wants to slip into delulu land, but i let myself do that so much last season to my own detriment that i am trying to remain much more pessimistic and cautious this time around, bc i have found that lower expectations usually yeild better (or more easily digested) results.

I am curious for your perspective on the way the OF creators are interacting with fans and have even admitted to editing the show based on fan reactions. It strikes me as an unusual level of interaction and capitulation, though of course TV is a live medium that is nearly always responsive to reactions to some extent. My preference is for a lot less of this kind of thing, but I know you have experience with direct interaction with media creators and have found it enhances your experience sometimes. What do you make of how these dynamics are showing up in OF and the effect it’s having on the show?

TV and Critic Background

So, I am actually the worst person to talk to if you think the creators should be quiet about their work, because I really enjoy talking to directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, and especially editors about their work. I often go to film festivals just to talk to the creators about their processes.

I've also been in the TV space a really long time, and I am used to this kind of behavior. I don't think a lot of folks who are in BL are used to being in the process of TV itself, and I think a lot of people have let the Netflix binge model inform the way they view TV. TV is not like movies. When you get a movie, you are seeing the end product of filming, editing, test screenings, re-edits, etc. TV is usually only an episode or two ahead of the viewers.

It's extremely normal for a show to respond to feedback when characters test well. The 100 did this with Jasper. He was supposed to die in the pilot when that spear entered his chest, but he tested well with audiences so they revived him.

Fun Fact: This is why Kiseki: Dear to Me didn't just move their release schedule up when episode 8 was leaked early. They probably weren't finished assembling episode 9.

I followed Sense8 through its entire development process all the way from rumors and then J. Michael Stracynski's posts about it, to the things Lana and Lily said about it, to the commentary from the cast.

I have a special hatred for Rick Behrman over Star Trek.

I absolutely hate Russel T. Davies because of Cucumber.

I bailed on Supernatural because of the way the writers condescended to us at comicon after killing Kevin.

I know some fans are upset about the idea that scenes they wanted to see got cut, but I was there for Noah Galvin opening his fucking mouth to talk shit about other actors at ABC who were playing beloved gay characters and that subsequently getting The Real O'Neals canceled. The show had a very short second season and I feel forever salty about that.

What does this mean for Jojo and Ninew and Den?

I actually think Jojo, Den, and Ninew are fine. I don't think they usually poopoo on valid reads from what I've seen, and mostly they're having fun with the fans, too. I just don't think people are used to the creators being so honest about how feedback affects the editing process.

I think this is the first time we've had a big show in a while where the creator was fairly active on socials about the show. Aof and Au are usually pretty quiet when their shows are airing, and only give small tidbits while they show is airing. Jojo is silly and likes to play with fans. Den is feisty and has a gay agenda to pursue.

Truly, I don't think Jojo and friends are that bad about anything with this show, because they're mostly just laughing and stating things that are obvious to people who pay attention to how the sausage is made.

Shipping

That being said, the biggest struggle OF is having is shipping. The FK girlies are so loud and their heavy breathing has likely influenced the way Jojo and friends decided to write Ray. The FB girlies are so into them that it's made Jojo and them dial back some of their Top content because the audience hates him so much. Only Boston and Nick feel like they've made it through the shipping gamut intact because Neo and Mark aren't bringing a bunch of preexisting shippers to the table.

Coming off of episode 10, you can see this plainly with the nasty4nasty dynamic with Boston and Nick. The emotional core of their dynamic feels true, even down to the way their moments in the store mirror their first interactions again. Boston came in for service about his phone and intentionally showed Nick something on it.

I don't think Jojo has ever had to work with multiple acting pairs that were big branded pairs prior to this, and this is only his second time really dealing with that. With Never Let Me Go, Pond and Phuwin weren't that big yet, and he wasn't threatening their ship with anything complicated. OF is challenging for people who just watch BL as fap material and have to deal with their faves not being easy people to parse.

Since returning to office, Donald Trump has swiftly reoriented US foreign policy around Russia’s best interests. Trump refuses to blame Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine, which is a bit like refusing to acknowledge that 2+2=4. Instead, Trump has faithfully parroted Russian propaganda, suggesting that Ukraine somehow “started” the war and smearing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a “dictator.” This week, the US joined Russia in voting against Ukraine’s UN resolution condemning Putin’s invasion. It’s become increasingly obvious through Trump’s words and actions that he sides with America’s adversaries more than our allies. Trump’s twisted foreign policy was on display in remarks Vice President JD Vance made at the Munich Security Conference on February 14. Vance minimized Putin’s active threat while lashing out at European leaders, who he accused of falling short in promoting democracy and free speech. "The threat I worry the most about vis-à-vis Europe is not Russia, it's not China, it's not any other external actor,” Vance said. “What I worry about is the threat from within, the retreat of Europe from some its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America … In Britain, and across Europe, free speech, I fear, is in retreat.” This is outright gaslighting. In reality, Trump and Vance are presiding over America’s active retreat from its “most fundamental values,” such as preserving and promoting basic democratic norms.

Vance’s shameless gaslighting

The second Trump administration has openly waged an Orwellian campaign of censorship far worse than anything Vance could criticize about Europe. For instance, Associated Press reporters were recently banned from press avails because the AP wouldn’t fall in line with Trump’s renaming of the Gulf of Mexico as “the Gulf of America.” US Attorney Ed Martin — functioning like Trump’s personal lawyer — chillingly announced on Monday that the Department of Justice “will be vigilant in standing against entities” like the AP that “refuse to put America first.”

Yet Vance told the Munich audience, “Under Donald Trump’s leadership, we may disagree with your views, but we will fight to defend your right to offer it in the public square, agree or disagree.” This is a laughable lie that insults the intelligence of anyone paying the slightest attention. Far from defending free expression, Trump has vowed to send anyone who burns an American flag to jail for a year. “Gotta do it,” he said at a campaign rally last year. “You gotta do it. They say, ‘Sir, that's unconstitutional.’ We’ll make it constitutional.” Last month, Trump signed an executive order that seeks to deport international students who attended pro-Palestinian protests. His administration has shut down federal websites that contained information about transgender issues, and his State Department now actively misgenders trans people on their passports. Just as Joseph Goebbels’s Ministry of Propaganda attacked cultural trends they didn’t like, such as so-called “degenerate art,” Trump has seized control of the Kennedy Center and wants to book the J6 Prison Choir to perform there. Trump frequently sues news outlets for reporting he deems “defamatory.” In 2022, he sued CNN for $475 million because it used the term “Big Lie” in reference to his big lies about the 2020 presidential election. He sued ABC for $15 million because George Stephanopoulos, echoing a judge, stated that a jury found Trump “raped” E. Jean Carroll. (ABC unfortunately folded and settled the frivolous case.) Trump also sued CBS for an absurd $20 billion in damages over the network’s 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris, which he argues was selectively edited to favor her. Obviously, Trump won the election so there literally are no damages, and his entire campaign didn’t come close to costing $20 billion. Trump even sued the Des Moines Register and pollster J. Ann Selzer for “brazen election interference” because Selzer’s final poll showed Harris leading him in Iowa by three points. (Trump would win by 13.) Yet Vance had the gall to mock European nations for their concerns about Russia’s actual interference in their elections.

[...] When Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, he claimed he’d restore “free speech” to the platform, but instead he reactivated the accounts of Nazis and other radical far-fight figures, including Trump, who’d violated the platform’s terms of service regarding hate speech and incitement of violence. Musk then simultaneously suppressed and outright banned left-leaning accounts (including the publisher of this newsletter) for blatantly ideological reasons. Musk is more than just a billionaire with a powerful megaphone. He’s practically co-president, even attending cabinet meetings, and overseeing Trump’s illegal dismantling of the federal government. Yet, he’s still owner of X, which is hard to distinguish at this point from official state media. [...] Trump’s escalating attacks against the free press, including replacing mainstream news outlets at the White House with MAGA hacks, are a sharp contrast from European allies that still value public service media. Meanwhile, Vance criticizes Germany and Belgium’s hate crime laws but minimizes the threat from China, where state control of the media is especially restrictive.

The MAGA movement’s definition of “free speech” is a twisted and hypocritical one, as it claims to champion freedom of speech while simultaneously eroding the freedom of speech of those opposed to the Trump/Vance/Musk agenda.
